The effect when processed in the list of effects will quite simply select the color (1,2,3 or 4) to be used as the highlight color (or shadow color) regardless of other usage of the colors in your brush. If you have a brush that uses four colors already it will most likely not give you the results you want. We didn't add additional working colors with this request, but only the selection of the highlight and shadow color from the set of 4 available colors. Ken

I understand the independence of the color selection and highlight/shading slelections. but I am disappointed since that limits my painting to 4 colors, not 4 colors plus white highlights and black shadows (for a total of 6). Will the white/black 3D shading option as now exists be destroyed? Thanx, Quasihedron

4 colors plus white and black is still the default behavior. Only when the 3D Highlight Color and/or 3D Shadow Color brush effects are used will those defaults be overridden. Ken

White is used as the highlight in any bursh that uses the 3D Abs brush effect along with a number of other 3D effects as well. However, the highlight is blended with the brush color and slightly offset so it won't often look too drastically white. Ken

Hi Ken, Thank You for your reply; Most the Brushes I made are quite complex. The few whit 3D abs they don't show much Black or White.Probably due to mixing.

Thank you for including this feature in TB Version 24.02. I feel that I am finally achieving the richness in the "3D" colors when painting with 4 colors on the brush (Color1to4), when using the "3D Highlight Color" brush effect. This could not be done when only White is used as the highlight color. This has made TB a more valuable painting program.
